2013 Project description

Vision

Acrylamide- we are eating it! Not only this chemical compound is present in our laboratories but also in the food we ingest! After having realized the fact that a carcinogenic substance is present in our food, and its carcinogenicity has been suggested even by the Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), we wanted to know how can we easily detect acrylamide using our knowledge and engineer a bacteria that would be able to do such thing. We wanted to know more about the cytotoxic and cytostatic effects on different cells

Project

TBD - Project This year Warsaw iGEM team is presenting to you FluoSafe - a bacterial sensor for acrylamide detection. As many of you know acrylamide is usually present in biochemical laboratories. But what is the significance of this organic compound really? Well, it is a neurotoxin and its carcinogenic activity has been widely proven.
