HisC knockout cells were transformed with the pUC19 plasmid with the extant E. coli HisC gene insert and were induced with IPTG. We allowed these cells to grow on M9 minimal media plates, so that only transformed cells would be rescued. This is a positive control for our ancestral HisC gene.
