Although many of his projects, including a MP3 hat, a small autonomous car, and an EMG-activated flashlight, are not biology oriented, his interest in synthetic biology took hold during his first lab class where he engineered E. coli to produce a yeast pheromone as a trigger for yeast apoptosis. Originating from Colorado, he loves camping, skiing, animals, saxophone, social dancing, traveling, and turtles. He is also a counselor for Camp Kesem.  He eats his apple cores, has made a Halloween leprechaun costume out of duct tape, has caught a hammerhead shark, and spells his name with an exclamation point.
