The Team

We are the team from Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM in Mexico City. Our team brings together students and teachers from all over the country, with various backgrounds and interests.

Undergraduate Members

Natalia Quiñones Olvera

Hometown: Guadalajara, Jalisco
Education: Undergraduate Biology student that got recently involved in Mathematics. (Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM)
Professional interests: Theoretical Biology, Molecular Biology, Evolution, Ecology, Complex systems
Can be found: Walking randomly, sleeping, talking, having some tea or coffee, at the movies, reading, nowhere.
If her career as a scientist fails she would like to become a hermit in the woods or a filmmaker.
Attributions: Her work focused on the development of the model and the design of the characterization experiments to be coupled with the model. She worked with the content design for the wiki. She worked in the WetLab.

Andrés Ferriño Iriarte

Hometown: Cuernavaca, Morelos
Education: Undergraduate Biology student Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM)
Professional interests: Molecular Biology, Genetics, Evolution
Can be found: Sleeping, in “Cuerna”, being hungy, reading articles for the project, watching WWYD, saying “otra dificultad”
If his career as a scientist fails he would like to become an opera singer.
Attributions: He did the main theoretical framework of the project, he made the overall design of the system as well all of the individual parts and devices. He was in charged of the synthesis of the new parts and worked in the lab to build the devices. Head of the WetLab.

Gabriela Santos Rodríguez

Hometown: Ciudad de México, México DF
Education: Undergraduate Biology student that got pulled into the dark side of Mathematics (Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM)
Professional interests: Molecular Biology, Theoretical Biology, Differential Equations, Mathematical Biology, Genomics, Proteomics
Can be found: In our school’s library, at IMATE, in Facebook, baking (gluten free), with her dog, looking for Pedro Miramontes, in Flatland.
If her career as a scientist fails she would like to become a cook or pianist at Sanborns.
Attributions: She helped with theoretical research for the overall design and the model development. She was in charged of the safety of the project, and of all the fundraising, budgeting and purchases.

Alonso Sandoval Velasco

Hometown: Morelia, Michoacán
Education: Undergraduate Biology student (Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM)
Professional interests: Molecular Biology, Evolution, Cellular Biology, Theoretical Biology, Developmental Biology
Can be found: Sleeping at his apartment, making beer, partying at a nearby bar, singing.
If his career as a scientist fails he would like to become a beer brewer.
Attributions: He helped with theoretical research for the overall design. Focused on Human Practices. Worked on the WetLab.

Carlos Roberto Cruz Maldonado

Hometown: La Paz, Baja California Sur
Education: Undergraduate Biology student (Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM)
Professional interests: Molecular Biology, Evolution, Systems Biology
Can be found: Playing the trumpet, travelling to Guadalajara, taking to girls, eating, patiently working in the lab.
If his career as a scientist fails he would like to become a musician.

Diana Heredia López

Hometown: Guadalajara, Jalisco
Education: Undergraduate Biology student (Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM)
Professional interests: History and Philosophy of Science, Science Social Studies, Popularization of Science, Botany, Evolution
Can be found: Drinking tea, sciency storytelling, cooking
If his career as a scientist fails she would like to open a bar called “La Churpia”.
Attributions: She did the graphic design and code for the wiki.
