Sightseeing musts

Even though you don’t have a lot of spare time, you should not leave the city without seeing these places:

Fourviere: It is a magnificent cathedral built between 1872 and 1884 in honour of Virgin Mary as a thank you for saving the town from a cholera pandemy. The basilica is situated on a hill, offering a spectacular view over the whole city.

Croix Rousse: It’s a neighborhood known for its artisans from Village des Créateurs, an alley where you can find plenty of local design boutiques.

St Jean Cathedral: It is a Roman Catholic cathedral near the Saone river. It was built on the ruins of a 6th century church and its construction was completed in 1476.

Vieux Lyon: It is a district situated on the historical site of Lyon and included in UNESCO’s world heritage list. Some of the buildings are from medieval times, but most are from the Renaissance.

Restaurants

Did you know that Lyon is considered food capital of the world? The streets of the old city centre (known as Vieux Lyon) are filled with traditional French restaurants (called bouchons) and various restaurants serving food specialities from around the world.
