Waste Degradation

The plastic degradation module is composed of 3 sub-sections. These look at using E. coli to degrade plastics. Bacteria are known for secreting a variety of compounds. By harnessing this ability, we intend to engineer bacteria to secrete enzymes capable of degrading plastics using an inducible arabinose switch. This will allow for controlled secretion of our degradative enzymes.
