言うまでもないことだが、研究するには物質面、情報面に関わらず相互に教えあい、助けあわなければならない。 それでなければ研究の発展はありえない。 ひとりよがりで突き進んでもかならず行き詰まるからである。 iGEMでももちろんそれはおなじである。 でもiGEMは学部生だけの学生団体であるため 学会などとつながりをもつ一般のLabと比べて外部とのコラボレーションが難しく　学部生だけでラボを運営するということにより生じる独自の困難に直面することも多い。 こういった特殊な事情によりiGEMは他の団体に助けをもとめることは難しい。 やはりiGEMerの問題をよく理解できるのはiGEMerである。 よってわれわれはiGEM同士で積極的に関係を持っていかねばならない。 他のiGEMにたすけをもとめることで、より円滑に研究を進めることができ 他のiGEMをたすけることで自分たちも問題の再確認をすることができる。 互いに共通の悩み、課題をもつiGEMerどうしがたすけあうことによって、スピーディーで質の高い研究を成すことができる

Needless to say, in research, we have to cooperate with each other in material and informational way. Otherwise, we are not able to develop for good. This is because if we do our work alone, we are subject to complacency. Of course, this is true for iGEM team. However, comparing for laboratories, which have various opportunity to interact other laboratories, for iGEM teams, which consist of students only, making connections with other groups is difficult. Moreover, we often face difficulties caused by lack of sufficient experience. Problems peculiar to iGEM teams are easy to be understood by other iGEM teams. Therefore, we iGEM teams have to connect each other positively. We can research smoothly thanks to other teams’ help and we can learn many precious things through helping other teams. If iGEM teams, which have common problems, cooperate with each other, we can succeed in high-level project in short span.

Although it is needless to say, for researching, it is not concerned with a substance side and an information side, but we must teach and help each other. Without these cooperation, there cannot be no development of research. This is because it goes certainly stuck if we push on smugly. There cannot be no development of research. Of course, it is the same also at iGEM. But since iGEM is only an undergraduate student's organization, compared with general laboratories which have relation with academic societies, collaboration with the exterior is difficult, and iGEM often faces the original difficulty which arises by managing a laboratory only by an undergraduate student. Because of such special situations, it is difficult for iGEM to ask other organizations for help.After all, it is iGEMer that can understand the problem of iGEMer well. Therefore, we have to have a relation positively with other iGEM teams. By asking other iGEM teams for help, research can be advanced more smoothly. We can also reconfirm a problem by helping other iGEM teams. When iGEM teams which have a common trouble and a subject mutually help each other, speedy and high quality research can be accomplished

iGEMは今まで発展し続け、チームの総数は指数関数的に増大し、多くの国、地域で新たなチームが毎年できてきている。チームの数が増大すれば、その分だけアイデアは広がり、互いに協力し合うことによって困難を乗り越えられ、結果の完成度は上がっていくだろう。
しかし、iGEMのTeamを運営するのは難しい。学部生がいきなり自分のラボもって自分たちだけで運営するんだから難しいのは当然である。 だから他チームの協力がなくては新規参入は難しい。 そこでKyotoはiGEM Biwako_Nagahamaの新規参入に協力し、仲間を増やすことに成功した。 具体的にこんなことした。
iGEM has been developing. The number of the teams participating in iGEM has been increasing and new teams come into being in many countries and regions every year. The more people participate in iGEM, the more various viewpoints we get. By helping each other, we can get out of difficulties at experimentation and　our projects can reach a high degree of perfection.
However, it is not easy to establish new teams. To manage iGEM team, we undergraduate students have to operate our own laboratory by ourselves regardless whether they know the way to manage. So newly joining is very difficult without other team’s help. Then iGEM Kyoto helped Biwako_Nagahama to establish team and succeeded in increasing the number of iGEM team. To be concrete, we had done as given below for establishing iGEM Biwako_Nagahama.

Explaining what is important to establish new iGEM team

We explained what is important to establish new iGEM team to Biwako Nagahama team.
First, we stated what is necessary for managing their laboratory.
Second, we taught them what Synthetic biology is like. Synthetic biology is an area of biological research and technology that combines biology and engineering. It is a little bit different from Biochemistry and Molecular biology. We gave them some technical knowledge required to iGEM.
Finally, we instructed them about Bio Brick, which is one of the most important purpose in iGEM. Bio Brick (i.e. standard biological parts) are DNA sequences of defined structure and function; they share a common interface and are designed to be composed and incorporated into living cells such as E. coli to construct new biological systems. By increasing gene registry, their research may be able to develop biology.

Holding study meeting　to manage iGEM team

プロジェクトの立て方やWikiの編集の仕方、その他iGEMを運営するなかで必要になることを、これまでのKyotoチームの活動から得た経験をもとにして教えてあげた それだけでなく、プロジェクトについての意見交換をしてお互いにアドバイスも出し合った 意見交換をすることで、こちら側もプロジェクトについて新しい視点をとりいれられたし、再認識できたことも多々あった Nagahamaだけでなくkyotoにとっても有意義な勉強会だった

We showed our knowledge we had been got　in our activities such as how to edit wiki homepage,and that is important to manage iGEM team.
Furthermore, we and they discussed our and their projects and gave advice to each other. By lecturing them, we realized many things again and thanks to this discussion, we got a new point of view about our own project.
So, this study meeting was　meaningful not only Nagahama but also Kyoto.

wikiを編集

実験ができても、それをいかに発信していくかにもノウハウがいる Wikiのデザインや編集の最も基礎的な部分の一部をになった。 向こうの要望を叶える手段を実際に編集しつつ、提示した。 その編集方法をソース内にコメントとしてのこした こうして新しいチームの発展に貢献

When you have done experiments and got a positive result, that makes no sense, if you don't express to the world what you did. However, the way to express your achievements in iGEM is so unique and difficult for green hands that we helped them. In order to express our achievements in iGEM, we have to make Homepages. And so, we made the most basic wiki design frames. We understood what they wanted and showed the means which fulfilled their wishes. We also left the ways they needed as notes in sourses. Thus, we helped the establishments and developments of a new team. Due to this activity, We contributed to the spreading of the Synthesis Biology.

Even if experiments succeed, they need know-how of sending it. We taught them the most basic part of edit and design of Wiki. We showed a means to fulfill their request by editing directly. We reserved the edit method as a comment in source. In this way, we contributed to development of a new team.

iGEM JAPAN

iGEM teams in Japan are closely connected with. iGEM Japan held the All-Japan meeting twice a year and regional meeting once a year. Then, we exchanged opinions about our project mutually. We also exchanged opinions about how to manage our teams. So we deepened our friendship. Addition to meeting directly, we connected with other iGEM teams by e-mail or SNS. And we made sure that we continue to relate with, and deepen our relationship in the future.

International Video Conference

国内だけでなく国際的に協調していくのももちろん大切だよね 文化の違う世界中の人々との交流を大事にすることにこそ本当に意味があるのだから Purdue が主催したvideo conferenceに参加した ここでBiobrickの新しいスタンダライゼーションについて意見交換したよ こうして参加することでiGEMの発展にちょっとでも寄与できたらいいね

It is important to cooperate not only with teams in Japan but teams in the world. Discussing problems with people who have a different point of view will improve our project. We attended the video conference promoted by Purdue and exchanged opinions about new standardization in Bio Blick. We wish these activities contribute to iGEM.

Of course, cooperating not only in domestic but also internationally is important, because respecting the exchange with people in the world where culture is different is just meaningful. We participated in video conference which Purdue sponsored. We exchanged opinions about the new standardization of Biobrick there. Kyoto got other teams to help, as Kyoto helped Nagahama. If iGEM teams increase in number and we can cooperate mutually, it comes to be able to perform more outstanding research. For example, iGEM must get a result in only one year, but when conducting a molecular biology experiment, time until we actually start experiments is very long. This is the because of the time concerning the construction of parts. It is very good if we can cooperate each other in such a point. We tied up with NTU-Taiwan or Tokyo-tech. I got NTU-Taiwan to help the construction of parts. We had Tokyo-tech send parts to us. If such a tie-up increases, we can conduct more speedy experiments and it will lead to improvement in the level of iGEM.

conclusion

このように、iGEMでは、仲間を増やし、つながり、助け助けられることが大切だ。 相互の協力のもとにiGEMが成り立っている。 これからも毎年のようにつながりをもっていきたい。 そしてiGEM Kyotoは日常生活とのつながりも大切にしている。 日常生活に役立つ、もしくは日常生活の経験に基づいた活動を積極的に行っていきたい。
