Overview

All work was conducted in a biosafety level (BSL) 1 laboratory: this means that the strains we are using (Escherichia coli DH5a and Deinococcus Radiodurans) are non-pathogenic and well-characterized.All members of our team were required to attend biosafety training that was conducted by Dr. Tuohy and Dr. Ziemba. Our general lab practices are listed below. -When in the lab, all members are required to wear lab coats and goggles when performing experiments. -All flammable liquids were kept in a cabinet labeled for flammable storage. -We had waste containers that were specified for biohazard waste, general waste, and biohazard sharps.
