The iGEM team at Macquarie University are currently in the process of achieving what they believe will be a world first, synthetically creating photosynthetic e.coli bacterium. The creation of a photosynthetic bacterium has been attempted in the past, although seem to have been unsuccessful. The team at Macquarie are confident that they can make scientific strides in the understanding and construction of a photosynthetic bacterium
