Ampicillin
About
Ampcillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic that acts as a competitve inhibitor of transpeptidase an enzyme required for cell wall synthesis. Ampicillin works on most gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria.
Stock
- Mix:
- 4 g ampicillin (100 mg/mL)
- ad. 40 mL dist. water
- sterile filtration
- aliquot in 1 mL stocks and store at -20°C
Stability
- Ampicillin is not autoclavable, it has to be added before pouring plates (keep in mind that the agar is not too hot when adding it)
- Culture plates can be stored for about 2 month at 4°C (as a batch in a bag or individually sealed with [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parafilm Parafilm])
