| + | Our iGEM project will be called ‘E. coligy: Plants with BanAphids’, a bacterial strain which can fight the problem of aphids in the garden. The proposed strain will secrete one or more pheromones or fragrances which will repel aphids and attack ladybugs, the natural enemies of aphids. This new approach through genetically modified bacteria can reduce the use of harmful insecticides in the future. Pheromones are naturally occurring signalling molecules, which are secreted by a lot of animals and can elicit an attracting or repelling effect. | ||

Secret garden
