As Human Practices is an essential part of iGEM we did numerous activities this year. We presented our project at the Nerd Nite to make it known in the scientific community of Braunschweig in a more informal way. We visited a secondary school and brought synthetic biology to young people. We gave a TV-interview to spread the iGEM idea. At the Strategy Congress Biotechnology 2020+ of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Berlin we met the other German iGEM teams and presented our project there. We also shot a video about our project. Of course did we have a web presence and accounts on Facebook and Twitter which we used as general information platforms for all interested citizens, other students and sponsors.

We asked ourselves: How can we, as natural scientists, tell the public about the great ideas we have? Activities like the ones listed above, definitely help people to come in touch with synthetic biology. But how can we measure the success of those activities and multiply their outreach? The solution: We developed a guide “How to succeed in public relations” for all future iGEM teams. The guide consists of different parts:
To measure the success of all Human Practices activities we created as well a Media Coverage Report where all publications related to our project and our team are listed and analysed.
Download the Media Coverage Report and the guide here.
