We are proud to participate in IGEM 2013 and are excited to present
Taxi.Coli - smart drug delivery
The basic idea is simple:
We will use E.coli as a "Taxi", add streptavidin to the surface as "Seats" and nanoparticles incorporating drugs as the "Passengers". The "Taxi" will recognize the right "Adress" with a pH sensor and the "Passengers" gets released by an enzyme.
Achievements:
- we can produce biotynilated nanoparticles
- we can engineer E.coli expressing streptavidin (maybe even on the surface) to bind these nanoparticles
- we can engineer E.coli to sense different levels of pH

Medal requirements
Bronze medal
- Register the team, have fun in the competition.
- iGEM 2013 Judging form.
- Description of the team's project using the iGEM wiki and the team's parts using the Registry of Standard Biological Parts.
- Plan to present a poster and talk at the iGEM Jamboree.
- Document at least one new standard BioBrick Part and submit it to the Registry + a new application and documentation of a previously existing BioBrick part in the Registry
We sent the following Biobricks:
BBa_K1111002, BBa_K1111004, BBa_K1111005, BBa_K1111007, BBa_K1111009, BBa_K1111012, BBa_K1111013, BBa_K1111014.
Silver medal
- Experimentally validate that at least one new BioBrick Part of your own design and construction works as expected. BBa_K1111005
- Document the characterization of this part and submit this new part to the iGEM Parts Registry
- Implications for the environment, security, safety and ethics and/or ownership and sharing. Describe one or more ways in which these or other broader implications have been taken into consideration in the design and execution of your project. Take a look at our safety page.
Gold medal
- Improve the function of an existing BioBrick Part or Device
We documented and characterized the already existing Biobrick BBa_K523013 extensively - Outline and detail a new approach to an issue of Human Practice in synthetic biology as it relates to your project, such as safety, security, ethics, or ownership, sharing, and innovation. Take a look at our Outreach page.
