Initially developed for single-laser fluorescence cross-correlation spectroscopy (FCCS) by Takako Kogure, Satoshi Karasawa, Toshi Araki, Kenta Siato, Masataka Kinjo and Atsushi Miyawaki; (Nature Biotech 24, 577 - 581 (2006) Chromoprotein from the GFP family was first found in sea Anemonia sulcata. Their biological functions are still poorly understood, but is thought act as photoprotective layer Nature Biotechnology 24, 577 - 581 (2006)
