Red fluorescent protein, GFP-like protein, derived from the stony coral Montipora sp.
Initially developed for single-laser fluorescence
cross-correlation spectroscopy (FCCS) by
Takako Kogure, Satoshi Karasawa, Toshi
Araki, Kenta Siato, Masataka Kinjo and
Atsushi Miyawaki; (Nature Biotech

Chromoprotein from the GFP
family was first found in sea
Anemonia sulcata.
Their biological functions are still
poorly understood, but is thought
act as photoprotective layer
