Heidelberg: We aided in their development of an NRPS database by submitting metal binding NRPS parts which we had done minor work with.
Stanford-Brown: We collaborated with the Stanford-Brown team on Bacillus subtilis protocols and in trying to design a vector.
Newcastle: * we organized a meeting to discuss their human practices
  • they are creating a bacillus without a cell wall
  • we discussed the possible dangers of releasing this to the environment
  • it was possible for these cell-wall-less bacteria to exchange DNA (have sex in a way) - we discussed the implications of that
  • they were interested in possible analogies between synthetic biology and architecture for some competition so we gave them some ideas on that
SDU-Denmark:
  • their matematician helped us with the mathematical aspect of our modelling
  • we were experiencing a problem with oscillations when solving a differential-algebraic system of equations
  • Nicky explained that the problem was that the system of equations was stiff and told us about the difference between explicit and implicit methods
  • We worked together on implementing different implicit and explicit methods
Paris Bettencourt: We completed a survey for them regarding different motives for participating in iGEM.
