Dr Antonio Guzmán-Velasco. BS in Biology in UANL Biology School. Master in Science in Wildlife Management and he is PhD candidate in Wildlife Management and Sustainable Development. J. Claudio Moreno-Rocha.
J. Claudio Moreno-Rocha. Biologist from the Biology School, Master and Doctor degree with Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering from the Medicine School, both from Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León in Monterrey, México. He was Assistant Research in the Molecular Biology lab in Medicine School from 1990 to 2000 and actually he is Associate Professor and Full Researcher in Biology School since 2000 until today. He is Metabolic Engineering and System Biology professor in the Biology School. His research projects involve microRNA promoters and characterization in silico and in vivo and design and testing synthetic circuits in bacteria. He was visitant research fellow at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas (1992), Molecular Biology Centre "Severo Ochoa" in the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid (1994), Institut de Genetiqué et Biologie Moleculaire et Cellulaire (IGBMC) in Strasbourg France (1997) and the Neurobiology Centre UNAM in Queretaro, México (2003). Instructor of the UANL iGEM team, collage division, in 2011 and 2012.
Meet the Advisors
Dr. Jorge A. Verdúzco-Martínez
Attached to the Cell Biology course in the School of Biological Sciences. Professional training in General Biology with mayor in Taxonomy, Master in Biochemistry at UNAM practicing tissue culture techniques in vitro. Studying mutant human enzymes of the urea cycle by metabolic complementation techniques, aimed at locating genes on human chromosomes of somatic cell hybrids between different sources. In the same period he worked the transcription and translation of ribosomal proteins of purified ribosome from Xenopus laevis oocytes in different developmental stages. He received his Ph.D. in Biology in the Faculty of Biological Sciences. Actually work in Agaves analyzing nucleotide sequences for use as determinants in molecular taxonomy procedures. Interested in the phenomenon of hybridization between different species lineage as a driver of biological evolution process.
Dra. Elva Teresa Arechiga-Carvajal
Aréchiga Carvajal was born in Monterrey, N. L., México, and holds a Bs in Microbiology from the Biology Faculty of the UANL. She got her Doctoral degree in Plant Biotechnology from the Center of Advanced Research of the Polytechnic National Institute (CINVESTAV, México). She has been a Professor of the Genomic Biotechnology Undergraduates program in the Biology Faculty of the UANL since five years ago, and leads the Structural and Comparative Genomics and Functional Genomics Classes. Her main research project is related to the Functional Genomics of the pH variation response in the Basidiomycete fungi Ustilago maydis, and also participates in projects dealing with Microbial Communities Metagenomic Characterization. Has been member of the National System of Researchers in México since 2006. She is member of the BioSafety advisor panel in the Biology Science School in the UANL
Ricardo Canales,Ph.D.
Doctor in Science, specializing in wildlife management, for the Biology School of the UANL. He currently serves as full time professor at the same institution, where develops projects primarily with birds, conservation genetics, phylogeography and molecular evolution in collaboration with the Rocky-Mountain Bird Observatory and the University of Washington. SNI candidate.
Dr. Mario Bermudez de Leon
Dr. Mario Bermudez de Leon has M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Genetics and Molecular Biology from Centro de Investigacion y de Estudios Avanzados at Polytechnic National Institute (Cinvestav-IPN), Mexico. Dr. Bermudez de Leon was supported by Muscular Dystrophy Association USA as Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Cinvestav-IPN, and received Postdoctoral training in the School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. His main interest is the regulation of gene expression involved in human diseases in order to describe the molecular mechanisms. Also, he has working with genotyping in human populations medically, occupationally or environmentally exposed to xenobiotics. Dr. Bermudez de Leon received the medal of outstanding performance from Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana and won the Roche award for his scientific work. Moreover, he has published 26 scientific papers as author/co-author, and, since 2008, he has been teaching courses of Pharmacogenomics, Transgenesis and Cloning in Facultad de Ciencias Biologicas at Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon. Currently, he is developing his scientific work at Northeast Biomedical Research Center, which belongs to Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social. He is member of National Researchers System (level I) since 2006, and member of the American Society of Human Genetics since the year 2000.
Dr. Juan Manuel Alcocer González
Juan Manuel Alcocer González. Chemist Bacteriologist Parasitologist since 1982, Master of Science in Immunology since 1993, Doctor of Science in Microbiology in 1997. All conducted in the Biology School at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. His research is in biology and chemistry. Specializing in cancer immunity and infectious disease vaccine development. Recognized by the National Research System, Level I. Dr. Alcocer has published more than 8 scientific articles in international refereed journals or indexed, and 6 popular science publications in various media. It currently has more than 75 citations. Director of thesis: more than 10 in BA, 14 MA and 8 PhD. Actually, he is the Vice-Chancellor (Academy) of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León.
Dvorak Montiel-Condado,Ph.D.
Dvorak Montiel Condado has a M. Sc and Ph. D. degrees in Molecular Biomedicine from Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados (Cinvestav) at Polytechnic National Institute, México. She was supported by UNAM as Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Biotechnology Institute. Her main interest is the the regulation of gene expression in human diseases and, the genetics and proteomics in the same diseases. Dvorak Montiel received an honorary mention in the Lola e Igo Flisser award for her scientific work. She has been a Professor in the UANL since five years ago and teach molecular medicine, proteomics and animal genetics in Facultad de Ciencias Biologicas. She is member of the BioSafety advisor panel in the Biology Science School in the UANL.
José María Viader-Salvado,Ph.D.
José M. Viader-Salvado, PhD. Chemical Engineer from Instituto Químico de Sarriá (IQS), Barcelona, Spain (1983). Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering IQS, Barcelona, Spain and the Max-Planck-Institut für Strahlenchemie, Mülheim ad Ruhr, Germany (1988). Professor of Bioinformatics and Genetic Engineering at the Institute of Biotechnology, Biological School, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL). He teaches since 1989 both Bachelor and Graduate School programs in the UANL. His research focuses on bioengineering and bioprocesses with recombinant yeast, protein biochemistry and genetic characterization of organisms. Author/co-author of 51 publications, 4 patents, and 1 technology transfer. Advisor for 10 Bachelor's thesis, 16 Master's thesis, and 8 Doctoral thesis. Honored with 39 awards. Member of the National Researchers System (SNI) level II, award from the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt) of Mexico.
